Many do not realize that in addition to theme parks and beaches, Florida is also a hot spot for the great outdoors. Ocala National Forest and Apalachicola National Forest are some of the premier hiking destinations in Florida. Trails range from easy to moderate in difficulty. Luckily, if you are looking for a Florida Vacation Rental, you can find many Florida Hiking Vacation Rentals near Ocala National Forest.

Ocala National Forest isn’t the only place to go hiking in Florida. If you are trying to take your significant other on an outdoor excursion they will never forget, you can take them to Tallahassee. Near Tallahassee is the Apalachicola National Forest. Many hiking enthusiasts refer to Apalachicola as some of the best hiking in the Southeastern United States. When I go, I always try to find a vacation rental. I would highly recommend that you rent a cabin near the hiking trails of the Apalachicola National Forest.

Florida Cabin Rentals are among the best value in travel in the United States. If you are going to Florida and you are looking to rent a cabin for your vacation, I would recommend that you look for hiking vacation rentals in or around the Ocala National Forest area if you are traveling to the southern portion of the state and I would recommend the Apalachicola National Forest as a place to look for cabin vacation rentals in the northern panhandle of the state. With every cabin I have rented while being on vacation, I have had adequate access to creeks, lakes, and rivers to go fishing. The hiking was great, but the last cabin I stayed in had a hot tub, dart board, and an awesome kitchen. The most relaxing thing about my hiking vacation was the serenity of the wilderness. Next year, I plan on getting a Florida vacation cabin rental near Ocala National Forest or Apalachicola National Forest because in my opinion, they offer what every outdoorsman wants: Peace, Harmony, and Nature.

Hiking in Florida is a memorable event. Once you go on one hike then you are ready for your next hike. The hiking is both interesting and marvelous. The most amazing hiking in northwest Florida is Florida Trail, Eglin East. It is the largest military reservation in Florida. It is one of the most beautiful backpacking trips in Florida, with deeply shaded old-growth forest, dozens of streams creating ravines through the clayhills, seepage slopes with pitcher plants, and nice designated campsites set 8-12 miles apart. The hiking in northeast Florida includes Florida Trail, Rodman to Lake Delancy Florida Trail, Etoniah West, Devil’s Millhopper State Park, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park – Bella Vista Trail.

Hiking in Florida

You’d think you were in the Amazon, or Hawaii, when you hear and see the tumbling cascades behind a screen of dense vegetation. But you are in the Devil’s Millhoper State Park. But the ephemeral waterfalls that occur here are just one of the delights to be found in this small but intriguing state park. It takes 232 steps to walk to the bottom of this 500-foot-wide, 120-foot-deep sinkhole. Each landing reveals a new layer of forest, each crack and crevice a bounty of botanical wonders. The best time to visit is after a heavy rain, when tall waterfalls gush down the sides of the sinkhole. A 0.9-mile trail rings the top of the sinkhole, leading you through habitats very different than what you’ll find elsewhere.

The hiking in central Florida includes Florida Trail, Ocala National Forest, Tibet-Butler Preserve, Eureka Springs, Disney Wilderness Preserve, Black Hammock Wilderness Area, and Eureka Springs established in 1938, by amateur botanist and world traveler Albert Greenburg. Years later, he started the first tropical fish farm in Florida in the springs, and in 1967 donated the 31-acre site to the county. Construction of the Tampa Bypass Canal ruined the hydrology of the springs, so they rarely ever flow—but the gardens remain. They include the largest publicly owned collection of ferns in Florida, a rose garden, and an orchid room, as well as boardwalks winding through a lush floodplain forest of maples, cypresses, and tupelo.

The hiking in south Florida includes Florida Trail, Pahokee to Port Mayaca, Harney Pond Canal Boardwalk, LaBelle Nature Park, and Ortona Mounds. These hiking places are rich with natural beauty.

Orlando FL Concerts

There are multiple options when looking for a good music venue in Orlando.  From small bars and clubs to large arenas, there are a near limitless variety of places to see a good concert or show.

One of the most famous is the House of Blues (http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/orlando/).  Located at Downtown Disney West Side, big name acts regularly take the stage to thrill the audience.  At the House of Blues, audience members are served food while they enjoy the music.  Ticket information, as well as a concert listing, can be found by calling 407-934-BLUE.

Over at Universal Studios CityWalk is Hard Rock Live (http://www.hardrock.com/live2/live.asp).  Seating up to 2,500 people, Hard Rock Live is the largest Hard Rock Café in the world, and is styled after a Roman Coliseum.  Like the House of Blues, some food is served, and of course it is equipped with a full bar.  There is no real set ticket price, though in general a ticket will run between 20 and $40.  For up-to-date information and ticket information, call the box office at 407-351-LIVE.

Sometimes known as the O-Rena, the TD Waterhouse Centre is not only home to all of Orlando’s major sports teams, but also hosts music acts.  Opened by Bill Cosby in 1989, huge acts like Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson, Elton John, and Tina Turner have all thrown packed-house performances inside.  There are many restaurants nearby for some pre-show food, and even the cheap seats are upholstered.  The best way of seeking out concert information is through Ticket Master, who will always have up-to-date information on who is paying and ticket price.

There are, of course, numerous smaller venues around Orlando, Florida.  The City Guide provides a good, central clearinghouse of local shows (http://www.orlandofloridaguide.com/orlando/events/orlando_concerts.htm). A concert is a great thing to plan during your next vacation.

American Police Hall of Fame

The American Police Hall of Fame and Museum located near Miami, Florida was established in 1960 as a memorial to law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. In addition to the museum, it houses two American law enforcement associations which provide an expanding variety of programs to benefit citizens and officers alike.

The museum features a 400 ton memorial to the nearly 6000 officers who have given their lives to protect American citizens, with each officer’s name and state engraved, and offers an interdenominational chapel which is open to the public for weddings and other celebrations. There is also a separate “K9” memorial, dedicated to and naming police dogs killed in action.

The exhibits include a variety of displays related to law enforcement, from full scale jail cells to electric chairs. It even features a small guillotine and medieval torture chairs, showing how punishment has evolved over the centuries. Other exhibits trace the history of crime and punishment in America and Britain, from where the majority of American law derived, and a history of law enforcement from Colonial justices of the peace through the founding of America’s first professional police forces to America’s modern crime scene investigators.

The American Police Hall of Fame is open 7 days a week (closed Christmas) from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Admission prices are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and Kids 4-12. Law enforcement officers and their families are free. For more information about the American Police Hall of Fame, visit them online at http://www.aphf.org or call (321) 264-0911.
