One of the most magical and memorable attractions at Disney’s Epcot Center in Orlando is not a ride. Rather, it’s the dazzling collection of sculpted plants and tropical gardens that make Epcot a renowned horticultural paradise. Each spring, Disney’s own gardening crew shares the secrets of their success at the annual Epcot Flower & Garden Festival.
Flower and Garden Festival--Epcot Center
Taking place from the middle of April to first week in June of each year, the Flower & Garden festival offers a different theme each weekend and includes educational presentations on subjects from the history of roses to unusual and exotic insects. Helpful hints for the backyard gardener abound, and the festival offers many special activities just for the kids, like lady bug releases and hidden toy treasures just waiting to be discovered. Topiary mazes in the shapes of beloved Disney characters offer fun and exploration for kids of all ages. A few of the topiaries eventually make their way into permanent display in other parts of Epcot, but most can only be seen at the festival.
In addition, the Flower and Garden Festival also includes an under-the-stars “Flower Power” concert series, featuring music from the 1960s and 1970s performed by the original artists. Past artists include BJ Thomas, The Lovin’ Spoonful, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and many others.
Epcot Theme Park admission is required to visit the Flower & Garden Festival, and events are scheduled mostly on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Epcot Center is open from 9 am to 9 pm daily, though the hours for certain activities and exhibitions may vary.
